Application for entries to the Playable City Award 2016 closed on 31 August. We are delighted to have received applications from 34 countries and from individuals, studios and collectives from fields as diverse as urbanism, visual art, literature, games, performance and architecture.
Building on the international success of previous Award winners Hello Lamp Post, Shadowing and Urbanimals, the 2016 call asked for ideas which respond to the theme of Journeys:
With more than half the world’s population now living in cities, transport infrastructure is a key investment area of the future city, but infrastructure and technology are often prioritised over user experience. Watershed is looking for globally-facing projects which start new conversations, imagine new futures and make new connections across the city – all entries are currently being reviewed and a shortlist will be shared and open for comment on this site on 27 September.
The winning idea will re-appropriate city infrastructure, make use of creative technologies and make our cities more liveable, hopeful and collaborative spaces. It will be prototyped and publicly tested in Bristol, UK, with a view to an international tour.
